Can I pass emissions / smog check if I clear my trouble codes?
No. Clearing codes with an OBD2 scanner or by disconnecting the 12V battery resets the vehicle internal I/M Readiness Monitors to "Incomplete" or "Not Ready". State emissions computers will automatically reject your vehicle until you drive for 50-100 miles under varied conditions to reset all monitors.
Is it safe to drive with an OBD2 code?
If the Check Engine Light is solid (not blinking), the vehicle is generally safe for short-distance driving to a repair facility. However, if the light is flashing, unburnt fuel is entering the exhaust stream, risking catalytic converter meltdown and engine failure—stop driving immediately.
